When an applicant wants to study in Canada with their family, we call it a Family Study Visa

You get your Study visa, your Spouse gets a Spouse Open Work Permit and your children get Study Permits to study in Canada. Spouse can work for any employer in Canada (open work permit). Children study for free in Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions/Doubts:

  1. Is it possible to get Canada study visa together with the Spouse visa and Child’s study visa?
Yes, you can study in Canada with your family. All visas get approved together. You all go to Canada, same day, same flight.

  2. Is it a new category of visas?
    – No, it is not a new category. It was always allowed.
    – Most agents are now saying it’s a new policy to justify why they used to advise “it can’t be done in Canada” earlier.

No, it is not a new policy. It was always allowed.

  4. Is it called “Concurrent Visa”?

    – Originally, Concurrent processing was used in cases where you have a PR application in process but processing is taking a long time, you can also get your Study visa or a Visitor visa to enter Canada temporarily.

  5. Why does every agent advise that:
    • Student and Spouse can not get visas together for Canada.
    • It’s very risky and you will get refused.
    • Better to go to Australia or UK if you want to go with your Spouse.
      Explanation:
    • We can not explain why visa agents give the advise that they do.
    • We have helped 100s of family members get their visas together.
    • What we can tell you is that per public policy, competitiveness and economy IRPR section 205(c)(ii), the Immigration Minister authorizes the processing of family members together with international students who are applying to study in Canada.

Options for Families

At Richfield, we pioneered the processing of Family Study Visas from India in 2019.

After seeing 100s of Spouse visa cases and relationships getting affected, we took it upon ourselves to help families go to Canada together and stay together.

Before we started Family study visa, it was common:

  • For students to apply for their study visa and go to Canada first and start their studies
  • Then after reaching Canada, apply for their spouses and children after 3-6 months.
  • Spouse and children visas may stay in processing for months, sometimes even 1 or 2 years
  • Many times, spouse and children visas get refused (repeatedly) under IRPR section 200(1) or section 205(c)(ii). Family members end up getting stuck in different countries with no solution in sight.

As anyone can imagine, this is a very risky arrangement. Especially for people who have real marriages, real relationships, and real children – how can one just go to a new country alone leaving your family behind and start a new life alone?

These things needs to be considered when going to new country without your family.

What then is the solution?

If staying together and going together is a priority for you, then apply for your study visa together with your family’s visas (spouse visa and children study visa).

This way, you all can go to Canada together. You plan your move together, you leave your home country together and you start your student life in Canada together.

You start your studies in Canada, your spouse can find a job in Canada (no restrictions to any employer) and your children can start going to school, for free.

Yes, your children’s education in Canada will be free.

Is Canada Family Study Visa for you?

For most people with families, applying for your study visa with your family is the right and the best way.

The reason for this is that obviously if all the family members can go together, why would you not go together? After all, you are a family. You are a husband and wife. You may also have children. The children may be newly born, or they may be older. You live with each other. Your lives depend on each other.

It would not make sense for you split up and live in different countries.

Yes, if the study visa applicant has a high risk of refusal, or if the applicant has had multiple refusals in the past, we advise keeping things simple and just try to getting the study visa first.

So, our advise to families is to apply together, stay together. Let the dream of going to Canada not become a nightmare.

Our endeavour at Richfield is to not just provide the best resettlement advise to our applicants, we take pride in helping keep families together.

Families need the most expert guidance, it needs more than just immigration expertise. It needs consideration of your personal lives and an understanding of your relationships.

We know that you are not just looking for a visa to your dream country, you are looking for a dream life.
